We’re hiring Criminal Defence Lawyers (Junior or Intermediate)

Due to increasing demand for representation by Bloem Law, we are looking for experienced junior and intermediate lawyers to join our team.
You will gain experience across the full spectrum of criminal charges from drink/drug driving to murder. We work as a team where you will have a multitude of learning opportunities within a supportive teaching environment.
Our purpose is to pursue transformational outcomes for our clients. This means we’re constantly looking not only for the best way to address their criminal charges, but also to assist our clients on their journeys to living better lives. We work (where appropriate) with a trauma-informed approach.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be admitted and practicing criminal defence work – you may be working up to a PAL 1 or PAL 2 Legal Aid level
- Have excellent academic and writing skills and are well versed in legal research
- Be able to work in a fast paced and dynamic learning environment
In this role you will:
- Regularly appear in court doing bail applications, sentencing or trials
- Draft submissions and affidavits
- Speak to clients and their families
- Undertake trial preparation
- Prepare opinions and research on legal issues
- Learn about the legal aid billing system
- Complete all aspects of trial preparation

This position will cover all Auckland courts but primarily Auckland, North Shore and Waitakere. Remuneration will be based on experience. Experience in doing Judge-alone or jury trials will command a higher salary.
