Profile 

Ivan is a Law Clerk at Bloem & Associates. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Laws degree at Auckland University of Technology.

Ivan has whakapapa roots in Taranaki and Ngāpuhi, and has completed a Diploma in Māori Language Fluency at Te Wānanga Takiura o ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa. He spent a number of years as a sworn member of New Zealand Police, covering a range of roles, but has migrated to legal study and is relishing the opportunity to work in criminal defence, with a view to continuing along the same path once graduated. He has a keen interest in manatika / justice, and playing his small part in improving outcomes for people who come into contact with the criminal justice system.

Ivan’s proudest and most humbling achievement-in-progress is being ‘Dad’ to his daughter who is now grown and forging her own path. Outside of work and study Ivan is a keen photographer, and ‘parent’ of a silly but charming heeler/kelpie cross.
