Ivan is a Law Clerk at Bloem Law and has been with the firm in a part-time capacity since late 2023.

Ivan had a lengthy career as a sworn member of New Zealand Police, with roles including qualified Detective and Police prosecutor, before going to study law. He also worked full-time as an adviser on the Criminal Procedure Act implementation. He received a commendation for this work which included exhaustive policy review. These roles gave Ivan an excellent grounding in criminal law investigation and prosecution. When Ivan left the Police, it was to engage in a year-long immersion course in Te Reo Māori as a means of embracing whakapapa and gaining an enhanced Māori world view.

Ivan’s professional experience and continuing education led him to pursue a career in criminal defence, where he aspires to spend his future years serving his community. He hopes to serve Bloem Law’s purpose of delivering transformational outcomes for clients.

Ivan takes particular satisfaction in supporting the firm’s lawyers. He is heavily involved in disclosure reviews for serious crime.
