Ruby is a graduate of Waipapa Taumata Rau, due to be admitted in early 2026. Before joining Bloem Law, she clerked at Augusta Chambers and Mayne Wetherell, where her varied lived experiences and longstanding passion for Indigenous legal justice fuelled a focus on criminal defence.
Ruby was a Te Whainga I Te Tika Award recipient in 2024, for undertaking a project that demonstrates an outstanding contribution to social justice in Aotearoa New Zealand or internationally. In 2022, Ruby was awarded a Prime Minister’s Scholarship to study Indigenous Rights and Histories in Brazil. Ruby has a particular interest in legal research related to critical race theory and sovereignty jurisprudence as they pertain to the criminal justice system in Aotearoa.
Since 2020, Ruby has led creative wānanga in prisons nationwide, led community advocacy initiatives, written Section 27 reports, and volunteered at the Auckland Community Law Centre. Ruby is a proud uri of Te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa, eager to serve Bloem Law’s kaupapa and clients.
