LEARN FROM THE BEST ALONGSIDE YOUR STUDY
A winter internship at Bloem Law will give you the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the best criminal lawyers in Auckland. You'll learn the ins and outs of criminal defence, even before you're admitted. You will get exposure to the best criminal defence work in the country. We understand that you need to balance your grades against getting exposure to real life experience in law. Successful internships could result in graduate roles.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications for our winter internships (March-October) are open from January 15th and close February 15th each year.

A GPA of 6 or higher is ideal, but applications from students with GPA’s that don’t quite hit this mark will still be considered.
What are we looking for?

We're looking for people that have a genuine interest in criminal law. This may be demonstrated by organisations you have been involved with while at University, a knowledge of important cases, court observations and a sound awareness of criminal justice issues.

Being a criminal lawyer requires people who are dynamic and know how to get the job done. This may be demonstrated by your previous jobs or examples of how your initiative has led to successful outcomes.

We deal with incredibly vulnerable people. You need to demonstrate that you understand how to deal with people well, treating them with dignity and respect at all times.

The success of our firm is not based on any one individual but rather the sum of the whole. You need to demonstrate how you are a team player.

Ideally you will have a GPA 6 or above. This is one factor that helps us understand if you are determined, dedicated and able to produce high quality legal analysis.
WHAT YOU
CAN EXPECT
You'll get hands on experience of what it is like to work in criminal defence on a daily basis. You'll do legal research, draft submissions, review disclosure, be in client meetings, visit prisons and do court observations. Our firm is a place where everyone is always learning. We have internal legal training to support all of our staff to be their very best.
WHAT WE EXPECT
We expect you to work hard to support our lawyers, and sometimes get involved in the painstaking detailed work involved in representing clients. You need to be on time, professional and dress appropriately. It is essential that you are humble and approach every task with a growth mindset.
